Unitron Hearing Introduces Sophistication without Complication
in the Premium Category
May 16, 2006 Kitchener, Ontario, Canada – Unitron Hearing Australia today
announced
the launch of their new premium hearing instrument, Indigo™.
Indigo offers sophistication without complication in the premium category. Indigo delivers brilliant,
true-to-life sound across multiple listening environments with fitting ease and control, bringing to
the automatic world the same superior results in multiple listening situations that, until now, only
a manual multi-program instrument has been able to deliver.
“We are very excited about the introduction of Indigo, the first product offered
on our new generation of DSP [digital signaling processing] hardware,” said Cameron Hay, President and
CEO, Unitron Hearing. “The new DSP platform is built with the future in mind offering faster speed,
greater processing power, and more memory. These benefits translate into more precise, intelligent operations
and decisions that can occur within a shorter time. The outcome is Indigo’s brilliant true-to-life sound.”
At the heart of Indigo is autoPro4™, an automatic program which analyzes and adapts
precisely to the needs of the four most widely experienced listening environments. Indigo’s intelligent
sound classifier analyzes the acoustic characteristics of the environment to determine the nature of
incoming signals at a faster speed. The classifier then determines, in real time, which of autoPro4’s
sound destinations will provide ideal listening results.
Indigo’s new software fitting platform, U:fit™,
gives fitters flexibility to tailor the adaptive strategy within each of the four sound destinations
to achieve desired audiological goals. Indigo’s data logging technology delivers real-world usage information
for more accurate adjustments and effective client counseling. (For more information on U:fit, read
our U:fit press release.)
Indigo’s product development included a focus on clients who desire a superior sounding
easy-to-use hearing instrument with automatic performance. Emphasis was also placed on the hearing healthcare
professional’s fitting experience to ensure Indigo is easy to customize for individual listening preferences.
Beta trial sites and clinical validations extended across four countries on two continents, including
Canada, France, Germany and the United States, in the broadest number of clinical applications and fitting
environments. Initial customer response from the trials
has been extremely positive.
According to Dr. Donald Hayes, Director of Audiology, Unitron Hearing, “Clinical
audiologists who have a deep understanding of the fitting process and its challenges had an integral
role in the development of Indigo and U:fit. The potential for fitting complexity increases as more
advanced features can be customized. U:fit makes the fitting process simple and reliable without compromising
the sophisticated capabilities of the Indigo hearing instrument.”
Indigo’s sophisticated adaptive feature set includes autoPro4™, a multiband adaptive
directional system with up to 16 null points, phase canceller, and noise reduction. Indigo offers additional
features to make everyday use easier including a wind noise manager, automatic telephone solution, ideal
volume indicator/intuitive volume control, and three manual programs in addition to the four destinations
available in the automatic program, autoPro4.
Indigo is available in a full range of styles, from the tiniest custom CICs through
to a choice of BTEs with or without volume control and power BTE. Indigo’s range of colors includes
contemporary metallics and colorful translucents as well as a new indigo blue color.
