Edmund Johnson
For the past five years, Edmund
has been living with a hearing loss. He had difficulty hearing high-frequency sounds, such as his young
granddaughter’s voice. His family noticed that he would constantly have to ask them to repeat conversations
for him or he would have to constantly turn up the volume on the television. Edmund and his family decided
that it was a good time to have his hearing checked. |

Edmund had never worn a hearing device before. He has several friends who wear them, but he was hesitant
at first about using them and was very specific about what he wanted: “I saw the hearing aids my friends
had. They were big and plugged up their ears. I wanted a hearing aid that someone couldn’t easily see
on my ear. I also didn’t want a hearing aid that would plug up my ear canal,” Edmund said.
The
Next™ 16 Moda™ II hearing instruments with slim tubes met Edmund’s requirements. The small Moda II shell
was practically invisible when Edmund placed it on his ear and the slim tubes kept his ear canal clear. |

“When I told people that I had hearing aids, they were surprised,” Edmund began. “They said that they
couldn’t see anything. Only when I specifically pointed to the hearing aids and the clear slim tubes,
did they see them.”
Edmund found that once he put the hearing devices
on his ears, he didn’t need to adjust any of his settings. The hearing instruments automatically adjusted
their settings for the various listening situations he would be in. |

“I went into a restaurant and I could hear conversations with my family, even with all the background
noise in the restaurant. I heard my granddaughter easily. I also heard sounds that I had not heard in
a long time: birds singing and the click of trains going over railroad tracks. I noticed that as I continued
to wear my hearing aids, they became even more comfortable. I didn’t need to make any adjustments.”
explained Edmund.
Another feature that Edmund noticed with his Next
hearing instruments was the feedback management. “Many of my friends who wear hearing aids would complain
about the ‘squealing’, especially when they would put their hearing aids on their ears. My hearing aids
never squealed,” Edmund said. |
